2 policemen including SI suspended, committee to investigate
incident
Two policemen, including a sub-inspector (SI), have been
suspended for allegedly beating national team cricketer Naeem Hasan. At the
same time, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has formed a three-member
investigation committee to investigate the incident. CMP Commissioner Hasan Md.
Shawkat Ali informed reporters about this after visiting cricketer Naeem
Hasan's house on Saturday afternoon.
Naeem Hasan's house is in Faridarpara area of Chandgaon,
Chittagong city. CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali went there to inquire
about the incident of beating him and express his regret. He later spoke to
reporters.
CMP Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali said that the highest
action will be taken against the accused police members as per the rules. In
the meantime, they have been suspended. A departmental case is also under
process. If anyone else is involved in the incident, action will also be taken
against them. In response to a question, the Police Commissioner said,
"The police will not take responsibility for anyone's personal crime. The
person responsible will have to take responsibility. Those involved will not be
spared at all.’
On Friday night, police accused Nayeem of beating and
harassing him after he was taken out of an auto-rickshaw in Lalkhan Bazar area
of Chittagong city while he was returning home after a Premier League match
in Dhaka. He alleged that he was also harassed after being taken to the police
station.
